
Introduction
Kaptan Birdhana is a member of Bhartiya Janta Party and hails from Jhajjar district in Haryana, located 55 km west of Delhi. He recently contested Haryana State Assembly Elections as the BJP MLA candidate from Jhajjar constituency. Currently, he serves as the elected Chairman of Jhajjar Zila Parishad (also known as District Council).
He has over 13 years of experience in active politics. During his political journey, he has undertaken numerous tasks to uplift the impoverished and downtrodden.
Education
Having born in a family of landless farmers and labourers, he has experienced poverty very closely. After completing his school education, he went on to pursue Diploma in Civil Engg but had to drop-out due to his family’s financial constraints. But later on, he pursued graduation from Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut (Uttar Pradesh).
Professional Journey
He started his professional journey by working in a few private companies as a sales man. With god’s grace, he started his own business in 1998 and then eventually ventured into various businesses ranging from trade to manufacturing, retail to distributorship. Currently he is engaged into mining business.
Haryana Legislative Elections – 2014
In the Haryana Legislative Assembly Elections 2014, he contested as an independent candidate and showed a stupendous performance. 5,048 people showed their unconditional support through casting their vote in favour of him, resulting in him getting fourth-position in the contest, leaving behind 10 candidates belonging to national parties like Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), etc and along with some former Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
In that elections, this figure stood at 25% of total votes polled for Bhartiya Janta Party, the party which formed government in Haryana; equal to 20% of total votes polled for Indian National Lok Dal, Haryana’s largest regional party of that time, and equal to 10% of total votes polled for Indian National Congress.
Zila Parishad Elections – 2022
He contested councillor elections from Ward-17, which comprised of 14 villages and ~40,000 voters. The fascinating fact about this election is that all the 14 villages were based in Beri legislative assembly constituency and he had no prior political engagement in this area.
There were total 11 candidates in the poll fray, yet within just 11 days of campaign, he managed a landslide victory along by forfeiting deposits of all the other 10 candidates.
Haryana Legislative Elections – 2024
In the 2024 Haryana Legislative Assembly Elections, he contested as the BJP MLA candidate from Jhajjar. He secured 2nd position with 52,790 votes (42.7% votes), reflecting his continued commitment to serving the people of Haryana. He increased BJP’s votes by ~68% over the previous legislative assembly. Moreover, he reduced margin of victory from ~44,000 votes (in Lok Sabha 2024) to ~13,600 votes (in Vidhan Sabha 2024) within just 5 months. This performance also reflects ~10x growth in his vote bank, both in percentage and absolute terms.
Despite every opinion poll predicting a Congress majority in Haryana, he finished in second place. His strong electoral performance demonstrated his growing influence and the trust he has built among the people of Jhajjar.
His campaign focused on industrial development, farmers’ welfare, and youth employment. He proposed policies to:
- Set up new industrial clusters in Jhajjar to boost employment.
- Provide financial assistance to farmers through government-backed programs.
- Improve educational facilities by increasing the number of government schools and vocational training centers.
Though he did not secure a victory, his campaign brought attention to several key development issues in the region and established him as a formidable leader in Haryana politics.
